Brigandine Abyss combines a continent-scale strategy layer with turn-based battles fought on hexagonal maps. Each campaign repeatedly moves between preparing your forces, deciding where to expand, and commanding knights and monsters during invasions.
Choose Your Starting Faction
Your faction determines your initial territory, available forces, nearby enemies, and strategic position. Story Mode focuses on six main campaigns, while Mission Mode expands the selection to 24 playable factions.
Use the Organization Phase
Before attacking, review your territories and military forces. Organize knights and monsters, strengthen important armies, and prepare units for the borders where you expect the next battles to happen.
Build Strong Troop Groups
Knights lead groups of monsters into battle, so avoid spreading your strongest units too thinly. Keep effective combinations together and reinforce armies that will participate in your next invasion.
Watch Your Borders
Expanding in one direction can expose another part of your nation. Maintain enough defenders in threatened territories instead of committing every strong unit to a single offensive army.
Invade a Neighboring Territory
Choose an adjacent enemy territory when your attacking force is ready. Early expansion is easier when you target positions that improve your borders without forcing you to defend too many new fronts.
Fight on the Hex Grid
Battles take place on hexagonal tactical maps. Positioning, movement range, attack range, unit matchups, and coordinated actions between knights and monsters are central to winning efficiently.
Develop Knights and Monsters
Surviving battles strengthens your forces through the game's RPG progression systems. Invest in reliable units rather than treating every battle as a disposable numbers advantage.
Repeat Until Meltitea Is Unified
Return to the strategic layer after battles, reorganize your growing nation, reinforce newly acquired territory, and continue expanding toward the campaign's conquest objectives.
Quick Tips
- Spend every Organization Phase checking borders before you commit to an attack.
- Keep your strongest knights and monsters together instead of spreading them across weak armies.
- Pick early invasions that shorten your borders rather than creating new exposed fronts.
- Preserve experienced units in battle; veteran knights and monsters grow more valuable each campaign phase.
Use this tier overview to understand the major campaign groups before choosing a nation. Factions with safer borders and concentrated forces are generally easier to manage, while exposed starting positions require stronger early-game planning and troop distribution.
Six main nations receive dedicated Story Mode campaigns with their own political goals and narrative routes across Meltitea.
Mission Mode expands the playable roster to 24 factions, creating many more starting situations and strategic challenges than the six Story Mode campaigns.
For a first campaign, factions with fewer exposed borders and concentrated starting armies are easier to manage because fewer territories require simultaneous defense.
Factions starting near several hostile nations demand careful deployment because offensive expansion can quickly create additional vulnerable borders.
Every campaign is shaped by where a faction begins, which territories it controls, the forces available to it, and its relationship with neighboring nations. The larger Mission Mode roster lets players experience Meltitea's war from far more starting positions than the six narrative campaigns.
Meltitea
The main setting of Brigandine Abyss. The strategic objective revolves around the struggle among its nations and the eventual unification of the continent.
Six major factions serve as the central playable campaigns in Story Mode, each presenting its own route through the conflict for Meltitea.
Mission Mode makes 24 factions selectable, greatly expanding the number of rulers, territories, starting positions, and strategic situations available to the player.
Non-Playable Nation
Meltitea contains 25 nations in total while Mission Mode provides 24 playable factions, leaving one nation outside the selectable Mission Mode roster.
Each faction controls territory on the campaign map. Capturing neighboring areas expands a nation's influence but can also create additional borders that require defense.
Faction armies are built around knights and their monster forces. Organizing, developing, and deploying these troops is the core link between national strategy and hex-grid tactical combat.
Brigandine Abyss combines strategic nation management with RPG-style unit development. Knights act as the core of each force while summoned monsters expand their battlefield options, making recruitment, training, survival, and army composition important parts of long-term conquest.
Knights
Knights are the central characters of an army and form the foundation of each deployed force. Developing a broad roster of capable knights gives a nation more flexibility when defending territory or launching simultaneous invasions.
Monsters fight alongside knights and provide additional offensive, defensive, and support options. Building a varied monster roster helps armies handle different enemy formations and battlefield situations.
Knights and monsters become more valuable as they gain battle experience and grow stronger. Preserving experienced units can therefore be more useful over a long campaign than repeatedly replacing losses.
Balanced Army Composition
Strong forces need more than raw damage. Front-line durability, ranged pressure, mobility, and supporting units should be combined so an army can respond to different terrain and enemy formations.
Multiple Fighting Forces
Conquering Meltitea requires armies on more than one front. Developing secondary knights and monsters prevents a nation from becoming dependent on only one powerful formation.
Army development continues between battles as players strengthen their forces during strategic phases. Keeping veteran units alive while improving weaker formations creates a deeper roster for later stages of the campaign.
Battles take place on hex-based maps where knights and monsters move and attack in turn-based combat. Successful commanders need to consider formation shape, movement range, vulnerable units, enemy leaders, and whether continuing a difficult battle is worth risking experienced troops.
Read the Battlefield
Before committing your army, check enemy positions and available movement space. Hex-grid placement determines which units can engage, support one another, or become isolated.
Keep a Stable Formation
Avoid spreading valuable units too far apart. A connected formation makes it easier to concentrate attacks while protecting vulnerable monsters and important knights.
Create Local Advantages
Focus several units on a manageable part of the enemy line instead of attacking every target at once. Removing individual threats quickly can reduce the opponent's ability to counterattack.
Pressure Enemy Leaders
Enemy commanders are strategically important targets. Applying pressure to leaders can disrupt an opposing formation and create opportunities to break the rest of the army.
Protect Experienced Units
Do not sacrifice developed knights or monsters for a small tactical gain. Their accumulated growth makes surviving veterans especially valuable during later invasions.
Retreat When Necessary
A failed attack does not have to become a catastrophic loss. Preserving important troops through a retreat can leave your nation in a stronger position for the next strategic phase.
While Story Mode provides six main story routes, Mission Mode opens a much larger selection of forces across Meltitea. Players can choose from 24 playable factions and approach campaigns according to their starting territory, available forces, nearby rivals, and mission victory conditions.
Mission Mode allows players to command 24 different factions from across Meltitea.
Story Mode focuses on six principal story campaigns, while Mission Mode greatly expands the number of playable starting factions.
Mission Mode campaigns use their own objectives and victory conditions rather than simply duplicating the six Story Mode routes.
Each faction begins from a different strategic position, changing its immediate enemies, expansion opportunities, and defensive priorities.
Available knights and troops differ by faction, so early army strength and development priorities change with the selected campaign.
Players looking for an easier opening can favor secure starting conditions, while players seeking a harder campaign can choose factions facing greater early pressure.
PC players can use the free Steam demo to experience Brigandine Abyss before the full Steam launch on August 26, 2026. The demo provides an opportunity to test the game's strategic management and hex-grid battles while also checking how it performs on your computer.
